Bose Sleepbuds have only been in the market for only just a year and yet a lot have already been said about how helpful they are. Many are saying that these gadgets are aptly named because they eventually become the best friends of those who have trouble sleeping. A lot of people appreciate the comfort, help, and efficiency of this product. These are indeed 21stcentury technology at its best. It would make a positive inclusion in any sleep habit.

The Bose Noise Masking Sleepbuds features

This new pair of earbuds is not just for listening to music while you are in bed. They are actually aimed at improving your sleep and overall health.

The Bose Noise Masking Sleepbuds work in the same way as normal Bluetooth headphones, but they have been specially designed with bedtime in mind, helping you to get off to sleep, and stay that way, without interruptions by canceling unwanted noises. They do this by masking unwanted noises and replacing them with soothing sounds, helping to keep you from waking up in the middle of the night.

Sleeping in with earphones has never been comfortable, so the company’s goal is solving this pretty basic but hard-to-solve problem.

The Bose Noise Masking Sleepbuds design

Bose is known for its high-quality craftsmanship. And the Bose Noise Masking Sleepbuds suits the category. The Bose Noise Masking Sleepbuds are very well put together and designed with premium in mind.

The Bose Noise Masking Sleepbuds boasts a nice and robust brushed-aluminum charging case which provides an extra 16 hours of charge when they are away from a USB port, which is not a type-c connection like expected. Nevertheless, it slides open in a satisfyingly smooth action to reveal the Bose Noise Masking Sleepbuds, each of which weighs just 1.4g and measures just 1 cm squared.

The Bose Noise Masking Sleepbuds is super lightweight and once in your ears, you will quickly notice how comfortable they are. In almost no time at all, you will forget you are wearing earphones. When they are correctly placed in your ears, which is done in the same way any other wireless earphones are, you will quickly notice they are unobtrusive, comfortable, and unnoticeable when sleeping, even for a long period of time.

Placing the Bose Noise Masking Sleepbuds back in the case after use is just as satisfying as taking them out, as they slip into their correct charging position with a magnet, which aligns them spot on with the charge connector and simultaneously reminds you how expensive they are.

The Bose Noise Masking Sleepbuds performance

As you can probably tell from the name, the Bose Noise Masking Sleepbuds are not meant to be used in the same way as normal audio earphones. Instead, they are all about helping you to drift off in a more relaxed way by masking unwanted, external noise and replace it with soothing sounds. That will explain why Bose does not allow you to hook them up to your usual music streaming platforms, and they only work via a companion app called “Bose Sleep”.

Just like the Sleepbuds themselves, the Sleep app is nicely put together and intuitive. Take for instance the battery level indicator, which is displayed for each Sleepbud clearly in the Battery tab, as well as product information and a guide to fitting your buds correctly to ensure they fit correctly in your ears.

To get you off to sleep, the Sleep app offers a variety of what Bose calls “soothing sounds”, including nature sounds and other familiar audio that’s related to relaxation. The 10 sounds are divided into those made for noise masking and those for relaxation. For example, for the former there’s an airplane engine noise listed as “Altitude”, and the latter a recording of crashing waves named “Swell”.

You can choose how long you’d like these sounds to play for in the app’s Sleep Timer setting, from 30 minutes to “all night long”, if you need it. You can also decide whether you’d like to set an alarm so the earphones can gently wake you up in the morning with a more traditional beeping clock-style sound, meaning you don’t have to set this separately on an external device (in case you’re worried the Sleepbuds would mask that, too).

The Bose Noise Masking Sleepbuds battery performance

In terms of battery performance, the Bose Noise Masking Sleepbuds declines on average by just over half when used for a full night’s sleep. That is when going to bed at midnight choosing to switch off the soothing sounds after 1.5 hours of sleep and opting for them to wake you up again in the morning about 7.30 AM. This does not quite live up to Bose’s assumption of 16 hours of use per charge, but it is just about there.

The Bose Noise Masking Sleepbuds verdict

The question here is, is it worth buying? The Bose Noise Masking Sleepbuds small size and lightweight construction mean they are incredibly comfortable to wear in bed, and not only ideal for sleeping in but they are able to replace outside noises, all with calming sounds to help you get to sleep, or focus more on what you are doing, such as assignments, work tasks, and more.

There is only one problem here. That is the price, the Bose Noise Masking Sleepbuds is not a budget-friendly earphone. However, people who suffer from insomnia and other sleep problems, can’t really put a price on a good night’s sleep. Although, people who suffer from sleep problems can’t guarantee that the Bose Noise Masking Sleepbuds will solve the problem. As people who suffer from sleep problems should also consider their lifestyle. However, with helpful tools and gadgets such as the Bose Noise Masking Sleepbuds could help you drift off into a blissful slumber night after night.
